Zenith School to organise Pancham 09 after six years
VADODARA: After a gap of six years,Zenith school is back with Vadodaras largest school-level science fair Pancham-09 Science,Mathematics and Environment Exposition. Along with the students,experts from top research institutes will also attend the three-day event,which is to be held between December 10 and 13.
This year,over 90 schools from across the state will be taking part in the event and over 400 exhibits on science,mathematics and environment will be displayed during the event. Students from Class VI to XII from various cities will be participating in the event. Along with the students,Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Centre,Archaeology Survey of India,Centre for Environment Education,World Wild Fund will also be participating in the display of their exhibits. The event will have experts from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO),Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC),Institute of Plasma Research (IPR) and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education,who will be displaying exhibits on the latest research undertaken.
The event is generally organised every three years,but this time it is being organised after six years. The enthusiasm hasnt faded as the number of schools participating is much higher than the last exposition. The event has always remained one of the most-awaited science exhibitions in the city. With eminent researchers,we wish to develop interest among the children for science. The event will be open for all, said Tazim Shaikh,assistance teacher,Zenith School.
SMC bags award for biogas power generation
SURAT: THE Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC),which was given four awards for the implementation of the JNNURM schemes,also bagged ENERTIA Award 2009 for its role in the production of power from biogas. Drainage Engineer Jatin Shah received the award by R V Shahi,former secretary with the Ministry of Power,at a function held in Mumbai recently. He said,The SMC had started the project of producing 0.5 MW power from biogas in 2003. We decided to utilise this biogas for power generation.
On Thursday,Mayor Ranjeet Gilitwala and municipal commissioner S Aparna received the four JNNURM awards from PM Manmohan Singh in Delhi.
CBI arrests senior WR engineer for corruption
VADODARA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior divisional engineer from Vadodara Western Railway Division on Friday afternoon for his alleged role in a corruption case. The official was transferred from Ratlam Division to Vadodara division. Western Railways Divisional Manager A K Srivastava said that the official was supposed to join on Friday. However,due to his
involvement in the corruption case in the Ratlam division,he was picked up by CBI and taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation, added Srivastava. CBI sleuths refused to comment on the issue.

Pakistani court remands 16 Indian fishermen to judicial custody
Islamabad: A Karachi court remanded 16 Indian fishermen on Friday,who were arrested for illegally fishing in Pakistani waters,to judicial custody till December 14.
The court of Judicial Magistrate (South) Ghulam Yasin Kolachi in Karachi issued the order remanding the fishermen to judicial custody.
The fishermen were arrested while allegedly fishing in waters off Karachi yesterday and booked under the Foreigners Act for allegedly entering Pakistani territory without a valid visa. The Maritime Security Agency also seized the fishermens three boats.
India and Pakistan arrest scores of fishermen every year on charges of violating each others maritime boundary. The fishermen sometimes languish in prison for years.
