Posing as CMO official man books room at Circuit House,held
SURAT: The Umra police have arrested a land broker who had booked a room at the Circuit House in Surat in the name of the deputy secretary at the Chief Ministers Office in Gandhinagar. The accused had posed as an assistant to Deputy Secretary Chetan Shukla.
The police said Shukla has lodged a complaint against the unknown person who had used his name and booked the room. Tracing the mobile used to make the call,the Umra police identified the accused as Ishwar Patel,a land broker. The police said Patel had made a call at the Circuit House on Tuesday.
Police patrolling intensified at bridges
AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad city police have strengthened the vigil at city bridges where incidents of students attempting or committing suicide are reported during the Board exams.
Inspector J B Gadhvi from Ellisbridge police said,In view of the large number of suicide attempts by students from the city bridges last year,the police stations with bridges under their jurisdiction have been told to keep a close watch.
He added,The policemen will patrol the bridges especially in the afternoon and evening hours when the exams get over. The boatmen on the banks of the Sabarmati have also been asked to stay alert at nights. Police patrolling has been intensified at Ellisbridge,Nehru Bridge,Gandhi Bridge,Subhash Bridge,Vivekanand Bridge and also in areas with a large number of examination centres is high.
Retired Deputy SP beaten up in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) was allegedly attacked by four unidentified men near his house at Bhuyangdev Society in the Ghatlodia area of the city late on Wednesday. According to the police,the incident occurred when the victim,Manoj Patel,came out of his colony in his car. The accused blocked his way,and one of them shouted why dont you vacate the land? Then they beat him up with a pipe and fled. Patel was later taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries,the police said,adding that four unidentified persons were booked under sections 324 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code for causing hurt. Further investigations are on.
Modhwadia alleges Rs 500-cr land scam
GANDHINAGAR: Speaking in the state Assembly during a discussion on the Governors address on Thursday,senior Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia alleged a Rs 500-crore scam in land allotment to Chatrala India Hotel group by the state government.
He said that while Chief Minister Narendra Modi repeatedly says that neither he takes bribe nor does he allow others in the government to take bribe,65,000 square metres of government land in Surat was sold to Chatral hotels at Rs 224 crore against the market price of over Rs 750 crore.
IIM-A: 70% score in Boards must for pre-admission interviews
AHMEDABAD: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad has introduced a new cut-off criterion for the general category candidates. They will be considered for pre-admission interviews only if their Class X and XII scores are above 70 per cent,irrespective of their CAT score. In the general category,IIM-A calls only those candidates for interview who have scored an average percentile of 99 in their CAT tests. But this year,IIM-A will call a candidate only if he or she has scored over 70 per cent in both Class X and XII. Five hundred and sixty-two candidates whose percentiles in each sections were 96.1 and above,and who had an overall percentile of 99 and had 70 per cent marks and above in Class X and XII were considered for the personal interview, IIM-A said on its website under a page titled Short-listing criteria for IIM-A Personal Interviews through CAT-2009. The new criterion,however,does not apply to other category candidates.
