1992 Gymkhana shootout: Mammumiyan asks court to discharge him
Mammumiyan Panjumiyan,who has been arrested by Ahmedabad city police in connection with the infamous 1992 Radhika Gymkhana Shootout case,has moved an application in the Ahmedabad Sessions Court to discharge him from all the charges in the case. In his application,Mammumiyan has contended that he should be discharged of all the charges since there is no evidence against him. The court has kept the application for hearing on November 2. Nine persons were killed in the Radhika Gymkhana of Odhav area in Ahmedabad in August 1992 as a fallout of a gang war between Abdul Latif and Hansraj Trivedi. Mammumiyan was deported from Dubai in 2004.

Court denies bail to biker held for performing dangerous stunts
Observing that it is in the interest of the society that bikers who do dangerous stunts on the city roads do not get bail,the Ahmedabad Sessions Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of an accused who was recently held for performing “dangerous” stunts and robbing off a mediaperson. The court of Additional Sessions Judge A C Rao passed an order while acting on the bail application of one Mausam Banker alias Montu. Chief Public Prosecutor Sudhir Brahmbhatt said he had contended that the accused and other such members of the notorious bikers’ gang have created havoc in the city putting safety of general public in danger and therefore,he should not be granted bail. The accused had denied all the charges against him contending that he has been framed in the case falsely.

SEWA welcomes SC ruling on hawkers
Welcoming the recent Supreme Court judgment on street vendors,Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) said they are hopeful that the new political dispensation would expedite implementation of the draft scheme for street vendors in Ahmedabad. It has said the new city mayor should incorporate changes in accordance with the SC directives. Recently,the Supreme Court has asked the government to come out with a proper law by June 2011 to regulate hawkers’ rights.

Placement drive at AIIM ends
The maiden batch of infrastructure management students at the Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management (AIIM) has got placements in private and public sector companies,with an average annual salary of Rs 10.8 lakh. AIIM had introduced a fully-residential graduate programme in Infrastructure Management (PGPIM) in September 2009,absorbing 21 students. Twenty eight companies initially attended the placement process,and 21 of these made 33 job offers. Some of the companies that recruited were Reliance Infrastructure,IDFC Projects,IRB Infrastructure,Larsen & Turbo Group,Marg Group,GMR Group,Adani Group,Torrent Power,Shapoorji Pallonji,Hajira-LNG,PWC,SBI-Capital,GSPC,Gujarat Tourism Project Development Corporation and Linde Engineers.
