Heat wave sweeps state

A severe heatwave is sweeping several parts of the state,including coastal Saurashtra and Kutch where temperature rose to 41 degrees Celcius on Thursday.

A severe heatwave is sweeping several parts of the state,including coastal Saurashtra and Kutch where temperature rose to 41 degrees Celcius on Thursday.

The maximum temperature,41 degrees Celsius,was recorded at several places such as Rajkot,Vallabh Vidyanagar,Surendranagar and Mehsana.

The Meteorological Department,Ahmedabad,has issued a “high temperature” warning for the next two days. The department also cautioned that the heat wave conditions will continue to prevail in parts of Gujarat till Sunday morning.

On Wednesday,day temperature rose largely in parts of coastal Saurashtra,south Gujarat region and changed little over rest of the region. The temperature was above normal in parts of central Saurashtra,north Gujarat region and in remaining parts of south Gujarat.

Night temperature rose in parts of Kutch,coastal Saurashtra and in parts of south Gujarat region. The lowest minimum temperature was 18.7 degree Celsius recorded at Naliya on Thursday.

In Ahmedabad,the maximum temperature was 40 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature was 23.3 degree Celsius. In Vadodara,the maximum temperature was 40.4 degree Celsius,while in Surat it was 39.6 degree Celsius. Gandhinagar was recorded maximum 39.4 degree Celsius
