As he spoke recently at an event on making a career in politics, Rajkot Mayor Pradip Dav tried hard to fight back tears. He recounted that he couldn’t make time for his son’s birthday last month.

Dav said that his son had expressed a wish to go out to have pizza. Even as he had promised, later a public meeting as part of the BJP’s outreach drive on the completion of nine years of the Narendra Modi government was fixed in Rajkot on the same day (on June 23). The Mayor could return home only in the night and his son had already fallen asleep.

Last week, Secretary of Roads & Buildings Department SB Vasava visited Chhattisgarh to participate in a meeting of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC).

Vasava is the incumbent president of the IRC’s Executive Council which is the apex body of Highway Engineers in the country. It falls under the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

The IRC’s role is to advise the government on policies related to road construction and road transport. It was the mid-term meeting of the council.
