The second day of the BJP Gujarat unit’s Brihad Karobari (extended executive) meeting began at the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) temple hall in Sarangpur under Botad district on Friday. BAPS is a leading Swaminarayan sect.

Around 1,300 office bearers of the BJP till the Mandal (tehsil) level are attending the extended executive meeting being held under the leadership of state party president and Union Water Resources Minister C R Paatil. Also present on the occasion are Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, apart from leading BAPS priests.

Generally, around 400 members of the state executive are expected to participate in the party executive meeting. But in the current extended executive meeting, party office bearers till the Mandal level are participating.

The second day began with Paatil hoisting the party flag on the temple premises.

During the meeting, the party is expected to pass a congratulatory resolution on the formation of the third consecutive government at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There will be five sessions during the day.

Speculations are ripe that under the party’s ‘one person, one post’ principle, Paatil could be relieved from the post of party president, and a working president appointed till a regular appointment is made. Party sources also claimed that this extended executive meeting should be seen as a sort of farewell for Paatil after his appointment as a Union cabinet minister.
