The state government has decided to allow Gujarat Police constables to appear in the special competitive examination for the post of sub-inspector (SI).

The government spokesperson Jay Narayan Vyas and Minister of State for Energy Saurabh Patel on Wednesday said that till now, only assistant police sub-inspectors and head constables, having spent three years in service, were able to appear for the special competitive examination for the promotion to the post of police sub-inspector (mode-2).

Vyas said,“But now with this decision even the constables, who are on the lowest rank in the police force, would be able to appear for the examination and directly become police sub-inspactors,provided they have spent 15 years in service.”

Gujarat is first state in the country to introduce such a provision. The decision has opened the doors of becoming sub-inspectors for the police constables who are experienced and efficient.
