The three-day Dangs Durbar,a gathering of tribals at Ahwa, concluded on Saturday night with a call for the tribal community to gear up to meet challenges while keeping their culture intact.

The annual festival was held in the presence of the five kings of the tribal-dominated villages in Dangs district, and their nayaks (secretaries) and 673 bhaubands (security guards).

Governor Kamla Beniwal handed over political pension to the tribal kings during the event. Dangs is the only district in the country where tribal kings still get political pension or privy purses. A total purse of Rs 14 lakh was given to them this year.

The political pension scheme was launched in 1842 following an agreement between the British political agent Sir Ottam and five tribal kings — for the rights over forest produce and the use of forest land in the district.
