Daman gangrape: Two engineering students arrested from Rajkot and Surat

The arrested students have been identified as Haresh Sayera (20) of Surat and Brijoy Dharaiya (20) of Rajkot.

Daman police Thursday arrested two engineering students — one from Surat and the other from Rajkot — for the alleged gangrape of a dentistry student on April 21-22.

A bachelor student of dentistry of Navsari, studying in Daman Medical College, was gangraped in Daman and Anand on April 21 and 22 by boys whom she allegedly met on social media. The arrested students have been identified as Haresh Sayera (20) of Surat and Brijoy Dharaiya (20) of Rajkot.

The 20-year-old woman student of Daman Medical College was allegedly abducted from Bhimpore area by a group of 11 boys who raped her in a running car on the evening of April 21. They drove the car directly to their rented flat in Mota Bazaar area in Anand where she was gangraped and dropped by them in Daman the following day.

The woman approached Daman police after consulting her parents and lodged rape complaint with police on April 24. Acting on the complaint, Daman police went to Anand and picked up 11 engineering students and brought them to Daman. The police took their statements and started the probe. Meanwhile, police carried out medical the examination of the victim in the government medical hospital where the rape was confirmed. Daman police said both the accused had raped the victim at different times and at different locations.
