Cop,lawyer booked for ‘extortion’

A police complaint was registered against a suspended police inspector H S Ratnu and a lawyer after a departmental inquiry found them guilty of playing a role in allegedly extorting Rs 5 lakh from owners of textile factory.

A police complaint was registered against a suspended police inspector H S Ratnu and a lawyer after a departmental inquiry found them guilty of playing a role in allegedly extorting Rs 5 lakh from owners of textile factory. The complaint was registered at Udhna police station on Tuesday.

The complainant,Jugal Bhutda,is one of the owners of a dyeing and printing factory from whom the inspector had allegedly extorted money. The lawyer is suspected to be an accomplice of the police inspector.

Udhna Police Inspector K H Rajput said,“We have registered an offence against suspended police inspector and lawyer Raju and we have started the process to locate him and carry out further investigations in the case.” The complaint was registered on the basis of inquiry carried out by Additional Commissioner of Police Range-1 B S Jebaliya.

Surat Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthaana had ordered the inquiry. The policeman was transferred from Udhna police station to special branch office of Surat city police and was suspended a month ago.

H S Ratnu earlier worked in Indian Army as sepoy and after 12 years of his services,he took voluntary retirement and returned to his native state Gujarat. He had joined police department in 2002 as police sub-inspector and worked in Surat city and rural police as well as in neighbouring Tapi district.

Few years ago,he got promotion and became police inspector and was posted in police training school in Junagadh,where he worked for few months and later got transferred in Surat in 2011.
