Cop caught on bribery charges commits suicide

An ACB team accompanied complainant Arjan Maru to the police chowky and caught Meghnathi when Maru offered him the bribe to settle a property deal. Maru had filed an application with the Gandhigram police station against one Vallabh Padaliya,who allegedly cancelled a land deal after accepting a token money of Rs 10,000.

Maru had said in his application that as per the deal negotiated with Padaliya,he paid a sum of Rs 10,000 for survey number 517 and 518 in Gandhigram. But Padaliya cancelled the deal and even refused to give back the token money.

Maru alleged that Meghnathi assured him of striking a deal with Padaliya for Rs 10,000,which was finally settled at Rs 8,000.

Meghnathi,who consumed poisonous tablets on Saturday at the Bajrang Wadi area,wrote in a suicide note addressed to the police commissioner that Ahir had framed him.

He said in the note that he had arrested Narshin Danger,the brother-In-law of Ahir,in a case earlier,and the scheme to frame him was set up to avenge this.

The police said they have begun investigations and steps will be taken against anyone found guilty.

The police added that Meghnathi had called up his senior soon after consuming poison,but by the time the police rushed him to the hospital,he was declared dead.
