Cong plans parallel fast to counter CM

The Congress MP of Valsad,Kishan Patel, and Union minister of state for road and transport,Dr Tushar Chaudhary, will do the counter “Satkarma” fast on Thursday

The Congress MP of Valsad,Kishan Patel, and Union minister of state for road and transport,Dr Tushar Chaudhary, will do the counter “Satkarma” fast on Thursday along with the Congress workers at Diamond circle, near Navsari Railway station, two kilometres from the Narendra Modi’s Sadbhavana venue at Lunsikui.

Earlier, the collector refused permission to Congress leaders to hold their fast at the Mahatma Gandhi statue, opposite to Modi’s Sadbhavana venue.

Iqbal Usmani of Navsari Nagarpalika, who approached the district collector’s office on Tuesday for permission, was told that this would cause traffic problems.

The Congress leaders proposed an alternative site near Dr Romaben Hospital, which was also rejected. The district administrative officials advised them to hold the fast in Itarva village, five kilometres from Modi’s venue, but the Congress rejected the proposal. Later, the deal was made at Diamond circle near Navsari Railway station.

Usmani said,“We expect participation of around 5,000 people in our fast. We have faced a great difficulty in getting the location to carry out fast, but finally we got it. Our motive is to raise the issues in which government had failed to implement various schemes for the tribal people. Even some local issues will also be taken by us.”

GPCC president Arjun Modhwadia said,“We are discontented over the role of the government machinery of Navsari who had rejected our previous proposals of desired locations to carry out a parallel fast. We know that the government machinery works for the Chief Minister Narendra Modi. As per Indian Constitution,it is the fundamental right of the person to put his issue and agitate, and if government machinery is playing role to stop it,they will be in trouble. Many farm labourers died due to leptospirosis and no aid given to the families of the poor farm labourers.”
