Cong MLA Jignesh Mevani marshalled out of Gujarat Assembly

Despite repeated requests from Speaker Shankar Chaudhary to return to his seat, Congress Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani continued to raise slogans, demanding a discussion on the Jasdan rape case.

Gujarat CongressStressing that the state government must "initiate disciplinary proceedings" against Neha Kumari, Mevani has said that “her continuation in office” as a bureaucrat in a senior position is “not only a violation of the ethical and legal provisions of the Service Manual of India but also a deterrent for marginal sections to approach the bureaucracy in need”. Congress Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani was Friday marshalled out of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for not heeding Speaker Shankar Chaudhary’s requests to return to his seat from the well of the House.

Mevani and other Congress MLAs were protesting against the comments made by Minister of State (Home) Harsh Sanghavi at the beginning of the discussion on the drug issue in the state.

Sanghavi said Congress MLAs were attempting to defame Gujarat by raising slogans and banners on drugs and then walking out of the Assembly.

Saying that he was ready to provide all answers, Sanghavi requested the Speaker to live-stream the House proceedings to ‘expose’ the Congress mindset and prevent its MLAs from staging a walkout on Friday like they did on Thursday.

Chaudhary then asked Sanghavi, “What makes you assume that the Congress would stage a walkout? Is there an IB (Intelligence Bureau) report to this effect?”

Following this, Mevani challenged the minister to hold a discussion on the Jasdan rape case and rushed to the well. The Congress is demanding a fair investigation in the alleged rape case reported from a girls hostel in Jasdan under Rajkot district.

A college student has alleged that a contractor working on the campus allegedly raped her, and an employee made sexual advances.
