He said the Congress workers are tolerant. “But if tomorrow they will not tolerate use of such language against its vice-president what will happen. Congress workers are not reacting out of respect for the code of conduct and laws of the country and are thus quiet. Otherwise,the use of such words can be stopped in two days. We don’t want such a situation to arrive,” he said.

Defending Gandhi and hitting out at Modi,Dwivedi said “some people are playing politics over serious and sensitive issues.” He said the Congress has always condemned and opposed communalism and “it doesn’t matter whether it is Hindu communalism or Muslim communalism.”

It was not just Dwivedi. Union Ministers Manish Tewari and Beni Prasad Verma too hit out at Modi and the BJP and the RSS.

Bihar BJP makes speech available on cellphones

BJP general secretary and incharge of Bihar Dharmendra Pradhan said the rally would be Modi’s first political engagement in Bihar. “Bihar heralded political change in the country in 1974 through JP movement,the Hunkar rally will be crucial in the 2014 polls,” Pradhan said. Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi flagged off a mobile tea stall named “NaMo tea stall” to highlight the Gujarat chief minister’s childhood as a tea seller in trains.
