City to get three multi-layer mechanical parking complexes

In what will be a first of its kind in the state,the AMC plans to build one such complex each at Navrangpura Municipal Market,Navrangpura bus stand and near the Vastrapur lake,at the total cost of Rs 2.85 crore.

According to Utpal Padia,deputy municipal commissioner,AMC,the projects were forwarded to the GIDB for scrutiny and consultations over two months ago. Having received GIDB’s clearance,there should be no hurdle in executing of these projects. Not only that,the AMC may identity at least four more spots in the city as desired by the GIDB,which also had the nod from the Chief Minister.

A K Sharma,chief executive officer of GIDB,said the proposals would have been cleared long ago,but due to the elections,it got delayed. “We have asked the AMC to find out more such locations where there is potential to have this facility to ease congestion. At least seven to eight such parking complexes should come up and the AMC should make all the possible efforts in this regard,as it is very much within the policy framework,” Sharma said.

The AMC has already floated tenders for the three locations for technical part and will now negotiate on the costing aspect,said Padia. “As of now,three locations will have the mechanical parking facility. The GIDB sent its remarks on May 25 in reply to queries raised in pre-bid conference,” he said.

Municipal Commissioner I P Gautam said the project would be taken up soon with four more sites already identified besides the three. The additional sites are near the road,he said. The new spaces will be between Ashram Road and Sabarmati,near AEC,Maninagar and Raipur Kamdar Kalyan Kendra ground.
