Manvendra Singh Gohil, the man disinherited from the princely state of Rajpipla-Narmada district after he revealed his gay sexuality, has been successful in his initiative to get a circle in Rajpipla town named after his great grandfather.
The crossroad, which is popularly known as Kalaghoda, has been rechristened as the Vijay Circle after Gohils great grandfather Vijay Singh.
Gohil told Newsline: The crossroad, where the statue of my great grandfather is located,is known as Kalaghoda. My great grandfather was known for his interest in horse races in India, and also in countries like Ireland,Belgium and France.
Gohil said it took him two years to get the crossroads at the entrance of the town officially rechristened as the Vijay Circle.
He said: Narmada District Collector R M Patel had advised me to follow the protocol of first informing the municipality as well as the authorities at Gandhinagar about the renaming of the crossroad.
He said the changes need to be made in the records of several departments, including the Post and Telegraph, and the Revenue Department.
