Union Home Minister P Chidambaram met senior Congress leaders here on Wednesday and said they could win the upcoming Assembly polls if they cash in on the current ‘infighting’ in BJP.

Chidambaram dropped by at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee office and met around 150 party workers from different quarters and districts for around half an hour.

Congress Spokesperson Manish Doshi, who attended the meeting, said Chidambaram asked them to make people believe,by their conduct, that they can give a good governance.

According to Doshi,Chidambaram cited examples of BJP leaders like Keshubhai Patel and Kashiram Rana who have come out against the Narendra Modi government, and asked workers to take advantage of the fact that “a sense of fear is prevailing among the BJP leadership”.

Doshi said the Minister told workers that even a seemingly strong government could be defeated and cited examples of BSP and DMK who suffered defeat in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu respectively.

He asked them to reach out to the people and highlight issues of poverty, malnutrition and those concerning SCs,STs and minority people.
