Cannot join Ishrat probe for now: Verma

Senior IPS officer Satish Verma has written to the CBI director and registrar of the Gujarat High Court expressing his inability to join the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter probe till the time he recuperates from a fracture injury in his left hip for which he was operated upon recently.

CBI had sought Verma’s assistance in the case and he was accordingly spared by the Gujarat government for four months as per HC orders.

Verma confirmed to The Indian Express that he has written to the CBI director and Registrar of Gujarat HC.

The encounter case was first probed by a HC-appointed SIT of which Verma was a member.
