Ahmedabad:A city resident has filed a PIL in the High Court seeking directions to make the marriageable age for both men and women equal. Without issuing notice to the respondents,the court has posted the matter for further hearing next week while asking the petitioner to come out with substantial grounds to argue his case. According to the petitioner,Nathalal Chitroda,the present marriageable age of 18 for a female and 21 for a male meant discrimination against gender.
SEBI official sent to police custody
Ahmedabad:The Gujarat High Court on Thursday sent senior Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) official Avarjit Singh to four days police remand in a graft case. Singh along with one Ashok Mehta is accused of helping out an Ahmedabad-based share trader whose company has come under the SEBI scanner following revelation of manipulation in Global Depository Receipts last year.
Verdict on PIL against CM convoys reserved
Ahmedabad:A division bench of High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a PIL by one Jignesh Goswami arguing that Chief Minister Narendra Modis convoy on public roads caused inconvenience to the general public. The bench,however,orally observed it would not compromise with the safety of the chief minister of the state.
PIL for improved fire safety measures at HC
Ahmedabad:A Gujarat High Court lawyer has moved a public interest litigation seeking proper fire safety measures and drinking water facility at the court building besides a weather shade at the main entrance for the common man. Acting Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya on Thursday told the petitioner that he would discuss the issue with the Registrar General and kept it for further hearing next week.
