Ahmedabad: Four students of the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) have been offered internship and scholarship programmes outside the country this summer. Shubhang Setlur is to assist India’s legal adviser at the International Law Commission in Geneva; Rishav Banerjee has been offered full scholarship to pursue a summer course at the Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands; Anuroop Omkar at Bridge Mediation Firm in San Diego; Sujoy Datta has been selected for the Xiamen Academy of International Law,Xiamen,China.

‘Drunk’ man sets wife ablaze

Rajkot: A man allegedly tried to kill his wife by setting her ablaze when she asked him not to drink at home.

The incident took place in Popatpara on Wednesday night,the police said,adding that the man was identified as Raju Savsaliya. Raju also sustained burn injuries while his wife was stated to be critical. The police have registered an FIR against Raju based on the woman’s statement.

Films from NID festival in Denmark

AHMEDABAD: Six-short films from the recently-concluded South Asian Film Festival “Alpavirama 2011”at the National Institute of Design (NID) will be showcased as a special package at the second Herning International Short Film Festival in Denmark beginning May 13. The films have been made by people under 30 years from India and other South Asian countries.

WR runs 90-wagon train

MUMBAI: Western Railway has begun operating a long haul train with 90 container wagons from Mundra Port to Bhildi in Gujarat. WR said in a release: “The Railway has made an attempt to combine two container trains into one ‘python train’ which left Mundra Port for Bhildi on May 11. This will boost freight operations and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

Man duped of Rs 1 lakh

Ahmedabad: A resident of Thakkarnagar was allegedly duped of Rs 1 lakh by a Kolkata-based man,who took the amount on the pretext of giving him a job. Police have identified the accused as one Abhijeet,who claimed to be the managing director of a company ‘Sambhavna Service Ltd’.

Crown stolen from temple

Ahmedabad: A silver crown worth Rs 50,000 was stolen from a jain temple near Nava Wadaj in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The temple was closed when the theft took place,police said.
