(Express)The polling for the election of the Board of Directors of the Rajkot Nagrik Sahakari Bank concluded peacefully on Sunday, said an official statement from the office of Rajkot Collector. This is the first time in 28 years that Rajkot’s biggest co-operative bank is holding elections for the post of directors. While the counting of votes will be held out on Tuesday, a total voting turnout of 96.39% was registered. The polling took place between 8 am and 4 pm.
As per the statement, the Rajkot Collector has been appointed as the Election Officer for the polls by the Cooperative Election Authority of the Union Ministry of Cooperation. It is for the first time in Gujarat that voting has been held for the election of board of directors of a multi-state co-operative bank.
Of the total 21 board directors, six have been declared elected uncontested.
On Sunday, voting was held for a total of 15 seats; 23 general seats of Rajkot constituency and two reserved for women. For the 13 seats, 23 candidates were in fray whereas, for the two seats reserved for women, three candidates are fighting the election.
A total of seven polling booths — located in Rajkot city, Jetpur, Morbi, Jasdan, Ahmedabad, Surat and Mumbai — were set up for the voting.
The booths in Jetpur, Surat and Mumbai witnessed 100% voting. And the ones in Rajkot city, Morbi, Jasdan and Ahmedabad witnessed 96.43%, 97.67%, 93.10% and 81.82% voting, respectively.
