Top 10 coldest cities in India: India is a large country, and the weather can change a lot from one region to another. As winter deepens in December, several cities, especially in the north and northeast, are feeling a sharp drop in temperatures. On December 13, many places recorded temperatures in single digits or just above, giving a clear picture of how cold conditions have become.
Topping the list is Manali in Himachal Pradesh, where the temperature dipped to a chilly 2°C. Light rain was reported in nearby areas, adding to the cold. Located high in the Himalayas, Manali is known for its freezing winters and attracts visitors for snowfall, scenic views, and winter activities.
Next is Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir, which saw temperatures around 9°C under clear, sunny skies. Situated in the Kashmir Valley at a higher altitude, the town experiences harsh winters every year.
Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, recorded 11°C. While winters are usually cold due to its mountainous location, today’s weather remained relatively comfortable, though light rain could occur.
Several towns in Jammu and Kashmir also reported low temperatures. Khawaja Bagh and Sopore experienced cold weather with temperatures near 11°C and 13°C, along with partly cloudy skies. Baramulla, surrounded by hills and rivers, also recorded 13°C. Despite the cold, the presence of sunshine and clear skies makes it a pleasant spot for winter travel.
The region’s summer capital, Srinagar, ranked next with a temperature of 13°C and cloudy conditions. Finally, Bandipora and Handwara reported slightly higher temperatures of around 15°C. Though these towns enjoy sunny days in winter, the cold still lingers, reflecting typical winter weather across northern hill and valley areas.
Delhi is not one of the coldest places in India right now. On December 13, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 16°C and a maximum of 24°C, which is relatively mild for winter.
Overall, the list of India’s top 10 coldest cities today highlights areas mostly located in the northern Himalayan belt and the Kashmir region. While these places are experiencing low temperatures, many of them are also enjoying clear, sunny weather, making the cold feel a little more pleasant.
