Assembly bypolls in Gujarat’s Kadi and Visavadar constituencies on June 19

The Election Commission on Sunday announced that the bypolls in Gujarat’s Kadi and Visavadar Assembly constituencies would be held on June 19.

The Schedule Caste-reserved Kadi seat of Mehsana district fell vacant following the demise of BJP MLA Karsanbhai Solanki on February 4. The Visavadar seat of Junagadh district fell vacant after AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani resigned in December 2023. He later joined the ruling BJP.

The AAP has already announced Gopal Italia as its candidate for the Visavadar bypoll.

The elections will be notified on May 26. The last day for filing nominations will be June 2 and the nominations will be scrutinised on June 3. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be June 5. Voting will take place on June 19 and the counting of votes on June 23.

The Gujarat Assembly has 182 seats and 161 of them are held by the BJP. The AAP has four members in the House, whereas the Congress has 12 MLAs. One constituency is represented by a Samajwadi Party MLA and two seats are held by independent MLAs.
