The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has advanced the corporations budget for 2010-11 from the middle of January to December,which means two annual budgets will be presented in one calendar year.
Municipal Commissioner I P Gautam on Saturday justified the decision,saying that the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporations Act provided for twin budgets in a year.
He said the first high-level review meeting for budget preparation and provisioning for various departments had begun on Saturday. In this regard,the ward committee meetings will be completed by the end of October,he added.
Utmost importance will be accorded to works connected with the road network as nearly 300 km of roads in the city were recently dug up for various projects like the laying of storm water drainage lines, he said. He added that the complete resurfacing work will be finished by the end of December.
As for the water supply network,24 distribution stations have been started and works on another 18 are in progress,Gautam said.
Project works for the budget year 2010-11 will be started from January onwards to cope up with the heavy workload,he added.
All digging works will be completed by June,including the bridges,in the wake of impending civic elections in October 2010,he said.
Gautam did not reveal the monetary allocation for the budget,but estimating an increase of at least 10 per cent,it will be to the tune of Rs 3,600 crore.
He further said that the projects of the 2008-09 budget were yet to be completed. Nearly 90 per cent of them are on the verge of completion. Works in the subsequent years will be taken up immediately after this,with priority to be accorded to utilities,which should be completed by November-end. Tender process for works to be done during 2009-10 should be completed by the end of Diwali,he added.
