A senior DCB officer said there were seven to eight “prime customers” of the Chipas in the city. “Haji used to deal in both genuine and adulterated cement. We have to only investigate whether the materials sold to them were adulterated or not,” said the officer.

After examining the adulterated cement bags further, the DCB found the original bags had manufacturing defects and hence the accused adulterated the cement easily.

The officer added that Haji’s network was spread across the city. He sold 500 to 600 bags everyday and earned Rs 100 to Rs 120 per bag. He paid Rs 600 to his truck driver per trip. The DCB is investigating whether the racket was operating in Vadodara,Rajkot,Surat and Anand as well.
