55-yr-old held for ‘raping’ deaf and dumb neighbour

Residents of the area who gathered around Bhavsar’s house said that they saw the victim weeping, unclothed.

The JP Road police in Vadodara arrested a 55-year-old man for the alleged rape of a 32-year-old deaf and dumb woman, living in his neighbourhood in Tandalja area.

According to the victim’s complaint, the accused, identified as Rajendra Bhavsar, took her to his house and raped her. Residents of the area who gathered around Bhavsar’s house said that they saw the victim weeping, unclothed.

Police said the complaint was registered by the victim’s sister-in-law who interpreted the victim’s sign language, narrating the incident. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, when the victim’s sister-in-law was in the bathroom to finish household chores.

Bhavsar lured the victim to his house and locked the door. When her sister-in-law came out of the bathroom and found her missing, she raised an alarm. The neighbours informed her that Bhavsar had taken the victim to his house.

She rushed to his house. On finding the door locked, she asked him to open the door. The complaint stated that about 20 minutes after other neighbours gathered, the accused opened the door. “The people told us they found the victim unclothed in the room, weeping and scared.

The accused was cornered by the neighbours, who then called the police,” an officer said. The police have filed an FIR for rape under Section 376 of the IPC and arrested Bhavsar.
