Four persons were arrested Friday for allegedly beating up a BJP councillor on suspicion that he was behind the demolition of an illegal construction,police said. Kaushik Jain,who represents Shahpur Ward,was allegedly attacked Thursday by Chandresh Vyas (44),Sanjay Vyas (28),Nirav Joshi (28) and Hiren Patel (35) when he was on his way to attend a function,they said,adding the accused snatched Jain’s gold chain worth Rs 50,000.
According to police,the men suspected that Jain was behind the civic bodys action to raze an illegal structure,belonging to Vyas,in the city. The four accused were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody till Saturday.
35-year-old raped,accused held
A man from Behrampura area in Ahmedabad was booked on the charge of raping a 35-year-old woman from Mumbai on the pretext of marrying her,police said Friday. Aakash Bachani was booked under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after the woman lodged the complaint against him with Navrangpura police on Thursday. The woman alleged that Bachani befriended her via Internet and entered into physical relationship with her by promising to marry her but went back on his word,police said.
One held for Nepali mans murder
The city Crime Branch Friday arrested one person in connection with the murder of a Nepali citizen,police said. Ravi Kumar Pandey (19) along with his six friends murdered Girish Khancha on May 28 over previous enmity. He was nabbed from near his home in Amraiwadi area of the city, Crime Branch Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K P Patel said. Enmity and rivalry between Pandey and Khancha resulted in this murder,Patel said.
