The government has no plans to de-nationalise the coal sector and all the apprehensions on this issue are totally baseless, Union coal secretary Anil Swarup said on the sidelines of a seminar on ‘Indian Coal Story — Prospects and Challenges’ in Kolkata on Friday.
“That some private companies were given rights on captive coal mines did not mean the Centre was going for de-nationalisation of Coal India. You see, after bank nationalisation took place, banks in the private sector like the ICICI bank or HDFC bank came up. But any de-nationalisation of banks never took place,” Swarup said.
