In Talaq-e-Hasan, talaq is pronounced once a month, over a period of three months. If cohabitation is not resumed during this period, divorce gets formalised after the third utterance in the third month.

The petition also seeks a regulation for making it mandatory for a Muslim husband to seek prior permission of a judicial officer “in the form of a certificate that the Muslim husband desirous to contract bigamy/polygamy is having capacity to provide equal treatment to all wives”.
