At least 68 people were killed in the 2007 Samjhauta Express IED blasts. A total of 43 Pakistan citizens were killed in the terrorist attack. The trial has been going on since 2010 at the Panchkula NIA court.

The Special NIA Court at Panchkula was expected to give its verdict in the case on Monday, but the pronouncement was deferred after filing of Rahila Wakil’s sudden application in the case.

The prime accused, Swami Aseemanand, is currently out on bail, and three other accused have been declared as proclaimed offenders. Another accused Sunil Joshi, who, according to the National Investigation Agency, is the mastermind behind the blast, was killed in 2007 in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas.

Among the two official witnesses, Dr Satish Kumar Gupta was given up by the NIA last week. Another witness DSP Vijender Singh was given up by the NIA last month. Many witnesses in the past have turned hostile in the trial going on since 2013.

Referring to a video of a purported narco-test related to the train blast, being shown on a TV channel, BJP’s Shiv Pratap Shukla alleged that there was Pakistani involvement in the blast. He said the terror attack on the train was carried out by Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba and SIMI.

The NIA has filed chargesheet against eight people in connection with Samjhauta blast case that claimed 68 lives in 2007.

The NIA has already chargesheeted Swami Aseemanand and four other right-wing activists in the case and a trial is on at Panchkula court in Haryana.

NIA has come under sharp criticism and has been accused of failure to carry on investigations in all terror cases in which right-wing groups have been associated.
