After fivefold spike in 2023, EV sales struggle to pick pace in Chandigarh

According to the RLA Chandigarh, electric four-wheeler registrations in 2021 and 2022 were 123 and 254 respectively, and increased significantly to 1,013 in 2023. Electric vehicle (EV) four-wheelers registrations — which were 1,326 in 2024 — rose to tad 1,348 this year, which is about to conclude.
RLA to begin e-auction of new series, re-bidding of special numbers

“Only the owner who has purchased his/ her vehicle at a Chandigarh address will be allowed to participate in the e-auction. The sale letter, form no 21, UID, Aadhaar Card, and address proof of Chandigarh are mandatory to participate in the e-auction,” the RLA said.

The counsels also stated that the dealers who had filed the plea had been made part of a joint meeting on the issue held on May 13, 2022 by the Chandigarh administration, after which the policy was finalized.

According to the ten year data obtained from the Registering and Licensing Authority(RLA), of the total 4,69,544 vehicles added since year 2012, 2,61,298 were motorcycles/scooters and 2,08,246 are cars.
