Pinaki Misra biography

Pinaki Misra, born on October 23, 1959, is a distinguished personality in the realm of Indian politics. He is an integral part of the Biju Janata Dal party and has been representing Puri in the Lok Sabha as its Member of Parliament.

His academic journey led him to St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, where he completed his B.A. (Hons) in History. He further pursued his LL.B. from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. These educational pursuits fortified his understanding of law and politics.

He had a distinguished legal career before entering politics. He has argued cases as a Senior Advocate before the Indian Supreme Court, High Courts all around the country, and other legal bodies. His areas of competence include foreign exchange, mining, company law, customs and excise, environmental law, and constitutional law.

His political voyage commenced in 1996 when he emerged victorious as the Congress candidate for the Puri Lok Sabha seat, defeating the then Puri MP and Union Minister, Braja Kishore Tripathy. This marked the onset of his illustrious political journey.

In the 2019 General Election, Misra triumphed over BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra from the Puri Constituency in a nail-biting contest. This victory signified his fourth term in the 17th Lok Sabha.
