The Netherlands opening batter has been key in the Dutch side's success in the ODIs and T20Is. The New Zealand-born O'Dowd made his Netherlands debut in 2015 against Papua New Guinea in a T20 game. It took him over four years to make it into the Dutch ODI side. The wait was worth it as the right-handed batter announced himself in some style. He started his ODI career with 86 not out and 59 against Zimbabwe in June 2019, and then two years later in 2021, when he played his third ODI, he smoked 82 against Scotland in Rotterdam. The 29-year-old is a compact batter who loves to put a prize on his wicket and it is his ability to take the game deep that has made him one of the crucial members of the Dutch side. In the 33 ODIs he has played, the right-handed batter has amassed 1158 runs with an average of 37.35, including ten half-centuries. However, he is yet to reach the triple-figure, but he has everything in his batting to reach the feat.
One-day memory: (89 vs West Indies at Amstelveen, 2022)
It was a valiant effort from Max O'Dowd, who kept the Netherlands in the chase. His 121-ball 89 was studded with eight boundaries. O'Dowd played both seam and spin with disdain and was looking set to make his ODI debut century. He failed to read Akeal Hosein's length and got cleaned up. The Netherlands lost the match by 20 runs.
One more thing: Ahead of the Netherlands' T20 World Cup match against India last year, Max has shared a note on his social media handles, which went viral. The note mentioned "Head to the ball, play straight and play late. 18.00 - T20 vs India @SCG," with a caption "What dreams are made of."
