The former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was sentenced in June to 19 months imprisonment after failing to hand over his mobile phone to investigators.

Prosecutors did not specify the grounds on which they are charged with terrorism. All three were also charged with obstruction of justice on suspicion of refusing to hand over their phones to investigators.
