The Karnataka Government's decision follows overwhelming public support, with 701 letters in favour of changes to SSLC and PUC passing marks, and only 8 opposing them.

The proposed change states that candidates will be declared pass if they meet the following criteria: secure an average of 33% marks when internal assessments and external examinations are combined; obtain at least 206 out of the total 625 marks; and score a minimum of 30% marks in each subject.
