Sri Lankan Navy arrests 32 Indian fishermen

In a statement, the Sri Lankan Navy said the arrests occurred during a special operation in the sea area north of Mannar in the wee hours of Sunday.

The released fishermen were handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah Border. The released Indian fishermen were brought to Lahore from Karachi in a special bus run by Edhi Foundation.

According to the lists of prisoners exchanged between the two countries on January 1, there were 266 Indian prisoners in Pakistan (49 civilian prisoners and 217 fishermen).

The fishermen were reportedly freed from the jail on Friday after the completion of their sentences. Faisal Edhi, chairman of the Edhi Foundation, arranged transportation for the fishermen to Lahore, from where they will continue their journey back to India.

Pakistan arrests 88 Indian fishermen for territorial violation

Karachi, Feb 21 (ANI): Pakistan's marine forces have arrested 88 Indian fishermen and took sixteen boats into custody for allegedly violating the country's territorial waters in the Arabian Sea. A police official said the fishermen, who were arrested on Friday night, have been handed over to Docks Police Station in Karachi for necessary legal action. The arrested fishermen were charged under the Foreign Act and Fisheries Act. The fishermen, who belong to Gujarat, will be produced them before a magistrate on Sunday. India and Pakistan share an extensive oceanic border with each other which is poorly defined, resulting in fishermen on both sides inadvertently crossing over to the other side while netting their catch.

Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu), Feb 11 (ANI): The Sri Lankan Navy on Thursday apprehended 11 Indian fishermen and their country boats on charges of trespassing into the territorial waters of Sri Lanka.
