Hasnain Masoodi is a political leader from Jammu and Kashmir and a Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party member. He is the incumbent member of Parliament from Anantnag constituency. He was born on February 12, 1954, in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, to Ghulam Ali Masoodi and Zainab Khatoon. He completed his L.L.M. from Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA.
He served as the Registrar General from 2005 to 2009 and as the Principal District Judge from 2007 to 2009. His tenure as a High Court Judge of Jammu & Kashmir from 2009 to 2016 is particularly noteworthy.
In October 2015, as a High Court judge, he delivered a landmark judgment declaring that Article 370 of the Constitution of India, which grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, is permanent.
In 2019, he made a foray into politics, representing the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, from the Anantnag constituency, defeating former PCC President Gh Ahmad Mir by nearly 8000 votes.
In August 2019, when the Union government moved to revoke the provisions of Article 370, he opposed the resolution in the Lok Sabha. After both the Houses of Parliament passed the resolutions, he petitioned the Supreme Court of India, asking for the revocation to be declared invalid.
