The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is a national-level entrance exam for admission to postgraduate programs (M.Tech, M.E, PhD) and recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The exam is jointly conducted by the IITs and IISc Bangalore on behalf of the Ministry of Education every year.
IIT Guwahati is conducting the exam, following the rotational policy. GATE 2026 will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15. The exams will be conducted in two shifts each day: 9:30 AM–12:30 PM and 2:30 PM–5:30 PM
The exam will be conducted online (computer-based test), featuring 29 subject papers including Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, and Humanities disciplines. Each paper will consist of 65 questions (multiple-choice and numerical answer type) carrying 100 marks, to be solved in 3 hours. General Aptitude will be a compulsory section in all papers.
Candidates in the final or pre-final year of undergraduate programs in engineering, science, architecture, or humanities are eligible. There is no age limit, and candidates can appear in up to two papers from the prescribed combinations.
