New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): Confirming his attendance at the ‘Mahishasura festival’ of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in 2011, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Udit Raj on Friday said that he changed his thoughts after joining the saffron party. Raj further stated that Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani’s remarks on the Mahishasura event were political and he attended the event as an activist then. Irani had yesterday created a huge uproar in the Rajya Sabha by reading out a document on the Mahishasur Puja, observed on the JNU campus every October since 2011.

JNU row: Umar, Bhattacharya surrender

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who are facing sedition charges for allegedly raising anti-national slogans, surrendered before the Delhi Police last night. Following a medical check-up, the two were interrogated on Wednesday for around five hours and will be presented before the magistrate later in the day. Khalid and Bhattacharya are among the five students who, along with JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, had allegedly shouted anti-national slogans at an event organised in the university campus on February 9.

DU Prof. arrested on sedition charges: DCP

New Delhi, Feb 16 (ANI): Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jatin Narwal on Tuesday asserted that former Delhi University lecturer SAR Geelani has been arrested under sections 124A, 120B and 149 in connection with raising anti-India slogans in the Press Club of India. He added that the investigation is underway regarding the same. Geelani was arrested at around 3 a.m. on Tuesday following sedition charges at an event held on February 10.

Jaipur Lit Fest kicks off with much fervour

Jaipur, Jan 21 (ANI): The Jaipur Literature Festival kick started on Thursday morning with the performance of local award-winning Rajasthani musicians Nathoo Solanki and Chugge Khan. The annual event is being held at the Diggi Palace. The event is slated to run from 21-25 January. The festival is completely free and open to all, attracting visitors from all four corners of the globe. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will inaugurate the event in a ceremony, which will include a keynote address from award-winning author Margaret Atwood.
