Bhartruhari Mahtab biography

Bhartruhari Mahtab, born on 8th September 1957, is a distinguished figure in Indian politics. Hailing from Agarpada, Odisha, he is the son of the late Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab. His political journey is marked by his association with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) political party.

His political career began in 1998 when he was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha from the Cuttack constituency in Odisha. His political acumen and dedication to his constituents led to his re-election from the same constituency in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019.

In addition to his political responsibilities, Mahtab has also made significant contributions to journalism. He is the editor of the Odia daily Prajatantra. His illuminating debates on the floor of the Parliament have earned him recognition and respect among his peers.

He has received the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award in 2017. He has also received the Sansad Ratna Award in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 for his outstanding performance in 'Debates’. These accolades are a testament to his commitment to his role as a parliamentarian.
