Asit Kumar Mal

Born in 1956, Mal's foray into politics began not with formal positions but with community service. He actively participated in various social welfare initiatives, building a strong connection with the people of Bolpur. This grassroots support became the foundation for his electoral success.

In 2019, Mal contested the Lok Sabha elections for Bolpur under the AITC banner. Despite limited formal education, he emerged victorious, capitalizing on his local connect and the popularity of the Mamata Banerjee-led party. He also retained his seat once again in 2024 Lok Sabha elections making him the two-time sitting MP from the Bolpur constituency.

Since entering Parliament, Mal has focused on issues pertinent to his constituency. He has consistently raised concerns about infrastructure development, advocating for better roads, irrigation facilities, and healthcare access in Bolpur. Additionally, he has emphasized improving educational opportunities and promoting cultural heritage preservation, leveraging the presence of Visva-Bharati University within his constituency.
