Anantkumar Hegde, born on May 20, 1968, in Sirsi, Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, is a prominent figure in the Indian political landscape. He is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member and a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteer. He was born to Lalita and Dattatreya Hegde. He graduated from MM Arts & Science College in Sirsi.
His political career began when he was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha in 1996 from Uttara Kannada seat. He was re-elected in 1998 but narrowly lost to Margaret Alva of Congress in the next election in 1999. Since then, he has been re-elected four consecutive times from Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency from 2004 to 2019.
In the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he held the position of Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development beginning in September 2017.
He has faced controversies along the way in politics. He was seen on camera abusing a physician over his mother's supposed maltreatment in a hospital. He also said contentious things concerning secularism and the Constitution.
