According to a letter issued by the Ministry of Education, Singh's appointment is until the appointment of a regular AICTE Chairman or until further orders whichever is earlier.

Even though it does not give the regulatory council the power to regulate fees in higher education institutions, the Bill, likely to be introduced in Parliament in the ongoing session, empowers the body to impose penalties for violations – ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 2 crore.

According to the ECI, 58,17,851 forms (7.59% of the electoral roll) remained uncollectable after December 11, mainly due to deaths, migration and untraceable voters.
