Sunny Burns, an Australian model and actor, was horrified when he saw his photographs being compared on social media with a man who carried out a deadly bomb blast in Bangkok’s commercial district. That bombing had led to the death of more than 20 people and injuring more than 100 others.

Burns told a television news channel that he almost had a panic attack when he saw himself being mistaken by people on social media for the Bangkok bomber.

“I’m nobody in Australia, but in Thailand I shot a movie and the fan club came to me and said: ‘Sunny, people think you are a terrorist,'” he said. “I almost died, I am still in shock and really saddened,” Burns told Sunrise, an Australian news show.

Burns also took to Instagram to share selfies and to explain that he was cooperating with police in the investigation.

“Talking with the police. I forgive everyone who spread those horrible rumours about me. I love this country and let’s fight together,” he wrote.

CCTV cameras had captured a man who was seen dumping a backpack and then walking away shortly before the blast which took place at the popular Erawan shrine in the heart of Bangkok. Investigators are currently looking for the man and his chief accomplices. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
