Apple WWDC keynote confirmed for June 13; Siri could open up to third party developers

Apple has officially announced that WWDC would take place from June 13 through June 17 and will kickoff the event with a keynote address. The keynote will take place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and will commence at 10AM PT or 10.30PM IST.

WWDC, Apple’s annual developer conference has been the platform for new announcements around company’s iOS and Mac OS ecosystems. Apple had announced a new programming language called Swift for developers at WWDC 2014.

At WWDC 2016, the showstopper could be Siri and according to The Information, Apple will open up its virtual assistant to third party developers. The report further states that Siri could become a more potent rival to Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s upcoming Home Assistant.

Amazon, Google and Microsoft have leapfrogged Apple when it comes to intelligent virtual assistant. Siri creators recently announced a new virtual assistant named Viv with deeper neural networks and artificial intelligence.

Another big ticket announcement could the debut of Siri on Mac, which is a no-brainer if Apple really wants to push the envelope for its virtual assistant. According to MacRumors, Mac OS X 10.12 will also bring Hey Siri integration to Apple’s desktop operating system.

On the hardware front, Apple is likely to announce updated MacBook Pro computers with USB Type-C port. Earlier rumours indicated, Apple will replace function keys on the keyboard with new OLED touchbar.

With Microsoft’s Build 2016 turning into a story about Bots and Google catching up on peers with even better AI, Apple could up the ante with better software and hardware integration.
