Earlier in the day, Raghavan had told reporters in Karachi, “The purpose of my visit is to find out all details about Geeta’s case and background and try to locate her family and relatives as soon as possible.”

At the Edhi trust shelter home in Karachi, he said, “The fact that I have come here is itself a message of peace from our government.”

Raghavan noted that despite all disputes there was a relation of humanity between Pakistan and India.

Geeta is believed to have mistakenly crossed into Pakistan as a child. She was eight years old when she was found by Pakistan Rangers at the Lahore railway station, reports from the neighbouring country have said.
