Two CRPF personnel, including an officer, were killed when militants attacked a road opening party (ROP) of the paramilitary force in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The attackers also fled away with an AK-47 rifle of one of two slain CRPF men.
This is the second militant strike in south Kashmir in three days. On Saturday, 16 people were injured in a grenade attack in Shopian district.
Police said the militants attacked the ROP party of the CRPF’s 90 battalion, deployed at Halmulla Sangam on National Highway in Anantnag. “The attack took place at 3 pm today and two CRPF personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector, died on the spot,” said SP Anantnag Abdul Jabbar. The slain personnel have been identified as assistant sub-inspector O N Singh, and constable Tilak Raj.
