4-year-old sexually assaulted in Bangalore, school staff questioned

The incident involving a student at the Orchids International school came to light after the close of school at noon.

A four-year-old child studying at an international school in north Bangalore was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified person on Tuesday. The police registered a case on the basis of a complaint filed by the parents of the child.

The incident involving a student at the Orchids International school came to light after the close of school at noon on Tuesday when the child told her parents that she had been assaulted by an “uncle’’ at the school. A medical examination revealed an injury on the child.

Angered by the incident, parents of hundreds of students gathered at the school on Wednesday morning. The school management claimed in a statement to the parents that no untoward incident occurred on campus even as the parents of the child alleged that the incident had occurred in the school. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Bangalore police commissioner M N Reddi said that a case had been booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and efforts were on to identify the attacker. All staff at the school were questioned and CCTV footage had been obtained for analysis, the commissioner said. A special team will investigate the case, he said.

“Doctors at a private hospital confirmed there was a slight bruise… amounting to sexual assault. There is the statement of the child, the injury and the circumstances. It looks like a case of sexual assault,” the police commissioner said.
