Udta Punjab leak: Cops search for owner of website

After a man was arrested from Delhi for the pre-release leak of Udta Punjab, the cyber police are trying to find the owner of the website from which the accused claims to have downloaded the movie.

The accused, Dipak Kumar, has told the police that he downloaded the movie from a web-site 9x.com, which has since been taken down. When the police tried to check the website, they found the domain name was available for sale. They are now checking with the registrar of domains to trace the owner of the website.

Kumar, who was arrested on Wednesday by the BKC cyber police, was released on bail on Thursday. The police had arrested Kumar after they found that one of the initial torrents of the movie had been uploaded on his website.

“During questioning, he told us that he had first downloaded the movie from 9x.com. However, when we checked, the site had been pulled down,” an officer said. He added, “There is a possibility that the website had been set up with the sole intention to upload the movie, and was then taken down.”
