Having drawn flak for shaking hands and hugging Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad during Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s swearing-in ceremony, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proffered an explanation during the AAP’s National Council meeting Monday.
In an attempt to clear the air, Kejriwal said it was Lalu who “pulled and hugged” him and that he is against the latter’s “record of corruption” and “dynasty politics”.
“During Nitish Kumar’s swearing-in, Lalu was on stage. He shook my hand and pulled me and hugged me. He held my hand and raised it. It was projected and questions were asked. We have not formed an alliance. We are against his record of corruption and we will always oppose it. We are against his dynasty politics. His two sons are ministers. We are against that too,” said Kejriwal.
“I am happy that questions are being asked… because people have hope, because they think we are different. Nobody asks questions when other leaders hug Lalu ji. It is good for us,” he added.
Kejriwal, who since the run-up to the Bihar polls has been a vocal supporter of Nitish, continued to rally behind him.
“Nitish is a good person. People have told us that he has done good work. We worked against the BJP there and supported him.”
Ever since the swearing-in ceremony on November 20, Kejriwal had drawn flak on social media for the show of camaraderie with Lalu on stage.
While backing Nitish throughout the Bihar polls, the AAP as well as Kejriwal said they would not extend support to the Grand Alliance.
